Providers will enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.  This course emphasizes the:

• importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival
• integration of effective basic life support with ACLS interventions
• importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation

The course includes simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader.

Audience: For healthcare providers working in emergency treatment, intensive care or critical care, and other professionals who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

BLS for Healthcare Providers is a 4.5 hour course, covering CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants, Choking, and all other information in the American Heart Association BLS Curriculum. The intended audience is healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel. Those who successfully complete this course will receive an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Card, valid for two years.

We offer frequent CPR and BLS for Healthcare Provider Classes throughout Northern and Central Virginia, including Richmond, Hampton Roads, Sterling, Leesburg, Loudoun and Fairfax.

Class Notes:
For MOST Northern Virginia classes, BLS cards will be issued at conclusion of class for most participants. For all other classes, and for same day enrollees, please be advised that the actual BLS Cards may be issued after class. Approximate processing time by the Training Center results in an average wait of 2-4 business days after class, for cards to be received. For immediate evidence of completion, any student may request a Course Completion Record (signed class results and roster) for immediate needs.

You MUST have the current AHA BLS Class Textbook in class. You may purchase the book from us during registration, or you may acquire it through your own means. If you purchase the book through us, you may request to have it shipped to you before class (at an additional cost) or you may pick it up in our office before class (please contact us to make sure we are there), or at class. There is NO requirement that you complete any pre-class assignment, and most students just pick up the book when they arrive in class, but the choice is yours.

American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Instructor course and the Heartsaver Instructor course is designed to prepare AHA instructors to disseminate the science, skills, and philosophy of the resuscitation programs to participants enrolled in AHA courses.

 

Instructor Candidate Prerequisites


Be identified as demonstrating instructor potential by showing:
1. A strong desire to teach
2. Excellent BLS performance and problem-solving skills
3. Able to follow directions and follow through with tasks
4. Able to communicate effectively in front of a group
5. Current AHA Healthcare Provider card with 2010 guidelines
6. Be willing to come into our office of for Skills check off, at least 14 days prior to the Instructor course
7. Be aligned with an AHA Training Center
- Ask if there is space available to affiliate with Newport Enterprises via Lawson Tec. Please read the Newport Enterprises and Lawson Tec Instructor Policies and Procedures, which will be sent to you upon enrollment. There is an annual fee of $90 to align with our Training Center, which is due at the time of alignment, and then annually every January. If you align after June 30, the annual fee is cut in half for that year.
8. Agree to teach a MINIMUM of two courses a year
9. Provide a completed instructor candidate application (will be sent to you upon enrollment)
10. Complete the Core Instructor course prior to classroom day, either on-line through the American Heart Association website or with a CD Rom.


Registration Process
Once we have received the first four items on the following list of requirements, we will email you a letter giving you the information on how to order the instructor manuals and the Core Instructor Course workbook. The Core Instructor Course is an exercise that you must complete before you can take the one-day classroom session. Once you have completed the on-line exercise, you will print out the certificate indicating that you have completed it and bring that certificate to the Instructor course.


1. Complete the registration and pay the course fees, below,
2. Forward a brief statement as to why you wish to participate in this course,
3. Complete the AHA Instructor Candidate Application, with appropriate signatures (this can be done in class, if necessary, or we can email it to you in advance),
4. Forward a copy of your current Healthcare Provider card (front and back)
5. Come in to our office for skills check off. Participant must have exemplary CPR skills , in order to take an Instructor course.
6. Be willing to complete the Core Instructor course, either on-line or with a CD Rom and produce the completion certificate prior to the classroom portion of the course.
7. Order your Instructor manual(s) and review them prior to class. You must bring them to the Instructor course.

Monitoring and Mentoring
Each instructor candidate is required to be monitored teaching a Healthcare Provider course upon completion of the Instructor course. The monitoring process is usually facilitated by your Training Center. The Training Center will not issue an Instructor card until a satisfactory monitoring has been done. A second and third monitoring may be required. This is not recommended as a punitive measure, but as part of our mentoring process to ensure all instructors are proficient and feel completely comfortable to teach ALL BLS courses offered by the AHA.


Class Notes:

You MUST complete the AHA Core Instructor Course, and bring the certificate of completion to class, or send us a copy prior to class. You must also bring the current AHA BLS Instructor Guide with you to class. There are no other class texts or materials required. If you purchase the books through us at the time of registration, all materials will be available at or prior to class, or sent to you in advance, if you have selected shipping. If you do NOT purchase the materials through us, you are responsible for acquiring them on your own. If you do not have them at class, you are subject to being dismissed from class without refund.


All registrations for this class are final and non-refundable for any reason less than 14 days before class.  

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED

Heartsaver®  CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.  This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

 

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid

The Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course also provides corporations with a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR and AED.

The Heartsaver First Aid Course has been developed using the same evidence-based process as all American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care courses.

Course Description: The Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult or pediatric emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR and AED.

Course Length: 5 – 7 hours

Intended Audience: Persons assigned to respond to emergencies in the workplace, community, or schools, as well as those who want to learn first aid, CPR and AED skills. Some rescuers are required to take this course as part of their employer’s efforts to comply with OSHA regulations, e.g., corporate employees, security guards, airline personnel, lifeguards and other individuals who want or need first aid training.

American Heart Association PALS - Initial Certification

PALS Initial Provider Course--CLASSROOM BASED 

The American Heart Association PALS course gives healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children.  
The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest.  
The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital.

Course Content:

• Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest
• The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
• Effective respiratory management
• Validate skills for 1- and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infant  and child
• Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
• Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
• Effective resuscitation team dynamics

CertificationAmerican Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Card valid for two years.
Students should receive their cards by mail within 10 business days of the class.

NSPF CPO (Certified Pool/Spa Operator) Course (1 Day Course)

CPO certification courses are designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. The Certified Pool/Spa Operator certification program has delivered more training than any other program in the pool and spa industry since 1972, resulting in more than 282,000 successful CPO certifications in 64 countries. Many state and local health departments accept the CPO certification program.


Instructors receive comprehensive training and certification to teach the CPO certification program. These instructors represent every segment in the aquatics industry including operators, health officials, service professionals, builders, manufacturers, property managers, retailers, and academicians. This training has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities.


Course Information
* The CPO certification program includes pool and spa chemistry, testing, treatment, filtration, maintenance, automatic feeding equipment, and government requirements
* The CPO certification program requires an open book written examination
* The CPO certification is valid for five years

Class Notes:

In order to be eligible for the 1 Day Fusion Course, participants MUST complete, prior to class, the 1 day, Online, PRIMER Course, and bring their class textbook AND their certificate of completion (in addition to a government issued, valid, photo ID) to class. Participants will be denied entry to the Fusion class if they have not brought the required materials, and will not be eligible for a refund. 

If you already have an access code and current edition of the NSPF CPO Book, you do not need to purchase it through us. You may obtain these items from any source, including directly from the NSPF. If you wish to purchase the online course and book through us, simply choose the "I need the book" option below, at registration, and the materials will be sent to you well before class (usually 2-4 weeks before class). Materials are generally not sent any earlier, because studies show that some of the testable material is not retained well by participants who do the course work too far in advance of the exam. 

Fusion classes are usually, but not always, on the second day of a previously scheduled 2 Day CPO Class. If you choose the Fusion Class, and, after completing the online coursework, decide you would like to also attend the full 2 Day Class, you may upgrade to the full class for a fee of $50.

Class Notes:
Per the policies by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF), you must attend both days of class to qualify for the exam.

NOTE: You must bring valid, government issued picture ID (Drivers License, Passport, Military ID, Resident Alien Card, etc)with you on the first day of class. You must bring with you a pencil, photo ID, and a calculator. Calculators that are on smart phones are NOT acceptable. Please email cpo@newport-enterprises.com if you have any questions.

You must have the current NSPF CPO Class text book. You may purchase it through us at the time of registration, at a discounted rate of $50, or you may acquire it through your own means. If you arrive at class without a class text, you will be required to purchase one at the regular rate of $75. Most students prefer to purchase the book at registration, and have it shipped in advance of class, in order to review some of the content. The choice is yours. 

NSPF CPO Primer Course ONLY

This is for the NSPF Online CPO Course (Primer Course) only. Once this has been completed,participants must still attend a FUSION class (Day 2 of any CPO Course) to complete the course and take the exam. Participants must bring their Certificate of Completion with them to the FUSION class. The FUSION class is a separate component, and is NOT included in the price of the PRIMER class. NSPF CPO Private Exam Session

If you were not successful in your certification attempt, we offer the opportunity to re-test. If you wish to retest as part of an existing class, please ask for the link to that option.

Replacement CPR Card

This is not an actual class. This is ONLY for Newport Enterprises students who need to have a replacement American Heart Association or an American Safety and Health Institute card for a card previously issued by Newport Enterprises. 

Once requested, please allow 1 week for the receipt of your replacement card. We are often able to get them sent out the same day. 

When ordering your card, please enter your original class date (if known) in the Comments or Notes box. 

 

ServSafe Food Safety Manager

 A one day class that culminates in the ServSafe Certification Exam Successful completion of the exam will result in receiving a ServSafe Food Safety Certification.

 

ServSafe is recognized internationally for its tests and service delivery standards and practices. Accredited by The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Conference for Food Protection (CFP), certification is the gold standard of food safety management certification. The ServSafe certifications are accepted in all states and jurisdictions that recognize the standards set by ANSI and CFP.

You MUST have the current edition of the ServSafe Manager Book, with an unused exam form. The current edition is the 6th edition, released in March 2012. If you do not arrive at class with the correct book and an unused exam form, you will be required to purchase one for $75. The book with exam form is available for $25 when purchased at the time you register for the class. 

ServSafe Exam administered at conclusion of class. The ServSafe exam is a 90 question multiple choice exam, and you must achieve a minimum score of 75% to be certified. Exams are scored approximately two weeks after the class date. *************

 

Class Notes:
Book and pre-work will be shipped approximately two weeks prior to class date. On site instruction and certification exams are available for intact teams. Do you have space at a business facility and would like a class instructor to come to you? No problem, just call us and confirm a date!

 

Test Class

TIPS - Training for Intervention ProcedureS

 Responsible alcohol management reduces youth access to alcohol and protects the public, licensees and employees. TIPS is the most internationally and nationally recognized alcohol training program by insurance agencies and state regulators.

This class is held on-site at your location so that you may train your team properly and thoroughly. The class is 3-5 hours and can be customized to meet the needs of the operator with house policies and specific procedures.

This program is complete when participants take a 40 question final exam the end of the 3-5 hour training session under the supervision of one of our instructors. Certification is awarded to participants who achieve 80% or higher on the exam. Successful students will receive a wallet-size TIPS certification card that is good for 3 years.*

Course Content
Topics include:
Behavioral Cues (visible, progressive signs of intoxication)
Blood Alcohol Content (BAC, the level of alcohol in a person's bloodstream)
Intoxication Rate Factors (items that affect the absorption of alcohol)
Effective Responses (intervention strategies to prevent alcohol-related problems)
Checking IDs (proper formats and things to look for on an ID)
State-Specific Information (laws that relate to alcohol and/or alcohol server training)
Documenting Incidents (forms to use to document problem situations)
Review (question and answer exercise to test understanding of information).

Tips Certification Classes are custom delivered for your organization, based on how you serve alcohol:

On Premise - For those who work or manage in bars and restaurants.
Off Premise - For sellers of alcohol in grocery, convenience, and liquor stores.
Concessions - For those who serve in arenas, stadiums, airports.
