LIABILITY STATEMENT

This course may include physical strain and emotional stress. If your physician has recommended that you avoid strenuous activity or limit your activity in any way, you need to realize that CPR is hard work.  This is true both in practicing on the manikin and doing CPR for a cardiac arrest victim.

If you have any medical or cardiac history that may be aggravated by the performance of CPR, you should consult your physician and ask his advice as to whether you should participate in a CPR course.  You will be spending a great deal of time on the floor on your knees.   If you have an injury or disability that requires accommodation, please inform the instructor before the class begins.

If you have recently had any type of infectious disease, including upper respiratory infection or open sores on your mouth or hands, it is better to defer manikin practice until you are well.

By registering for this course, I understand that the American Heart Association, Newport Enterprises, its instructors, associates, and all others affiliated with the offering of this course, or it’s materials, cannot be held responsible in the event that injury or illness occurs or becomes more severe during or as a result of taking this course. ** Prior to April 2016, this course was known as BLS for Healthcare Providers. American Heart has changed the name of the course.

The BLS Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

BLS  is an approximately 4 hour course, covering CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants, Choking, and all other information in the American Heart Association BLS Curriculum. The intended audience is healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel. Those who successfully complete this course will receive an AHA BLS (Basic Life Suport), valid for two years.

We offer frequent CPR and BLS  Classes throughout Northern and Central Virginia, including Richmond, Hampton Roads, Sterling, Leesburg, Loudoun and Fairfax.

Class Notes:

Certifications are issued electronically (as e-cards), usually within 48 hours of class....in many cases the same day. Paper cards are no longer issued by the American Heart Association. Your electronic card will contain instructions for downloading and printing, if desired. For MOST Northern Virginia classes, BLS certifications will be issued at conclusion of class for most participants.  For immediate evidence of completion, any student may request a Course Completion Record (signed class notice from instructor) for immediate needs. Please make sure to check your email (and your spam filter) for your ecard, which will be sent directly from the AHA.

You MUST have the current (2020 Version) AHA BLS Class Textbook in class. You may purchase the book from us during registration, or you may acquire it through your own means. If you purchase the book through us, you may request to have it shipped to you before class (at an additional cost) or you may pick it up in our office at the beginning of class. ** Please choose the shipping option if you would like the book prior to class, as we are generally not able to offer "in office" pick ups, due to our class schedule. There is NO requirement that you complete any pre-class assignment, and most students just pick up the book when they arrive in class, but the choice is yours. If you pre-purchase the book during registration, it is $20. If you purchase the book on the day of class, it is $25.
